존이 크리스찬 하우스에서 배운 교훈

존은 믿음의 사람이었고 그의 가장 큰 기쁨은 교회에 참석하고 기도하고 예배하는 것이었습니다.
그래서 교회 근처에 있는 다가구주택인 '크리스찬 하우스(기독교집)'로 이사를 결심했습니다.

크리스찬 하우스로 이사한 것은 존의 실수였습니다.
집이 낡아서 존의 옆집에서 기침하는 소리가 들렸고
존은 한밤중에 집 위층에서 걷는 소리에 새벽 3시에 일어나기 시작했습니다.

물은 때때로 갈색이었고 그의 피부를 가렵게 만들었습니다.
바퀴벌레가 아파트를 자주 돌아다니고 
집주인이 보일러 수리를 거부하여 John은 겨울 동안 몸을 떨었습니다.
그가 항의하자 집주인은 그의 문제가 아니라며 존을 힘들게 했습니다.
겨울의 끝에 존이 화가 나서 집주인을 찾아가서 법률 적으로 문제가 있다고 했을때
집주인은 법률 자료를 몇주간 알아보더니 보일러를 고쳤습니다.

또한 존의 방 위에 사는 사람은 화장실과 발코니에서 매일 담배를 피웠고
연기 때문에 존의 눈이 가려웠습니다.
존이 집주인과 이야기했을 때, 집주인은 존의 윗집에 가서 몇 가지 경고를 하고 존에게 집주인이 할 일을 했으며 
집주인의 문제가 아니라고 말했습니다.

존은 크리스찬 하우스로 이사한 것이 자신의 실수라고 느꼈습니다.
그는 자신이 하나님과 더 친밀해지고 가까워지고 싶었을 뿐이였는데
자신이 너무 비참하고 무력감을 느꼈습니다.
교회의 새벽기도회에 참석하고 싶었던 마음 만큼,
상황이 그를 불가능하게 만들었습니다.

어느 금요일 존은 크리스찬 하우스에서 이사하기로 결정했습니다.
계약으로 인해 돈을 잃는 것을 의미하더라도.....
존이 집주인에게 이사를 통보한 금요일 저녁 철야예배 중에
존이 다니는 교회 목사님은 베데스다 연못에 대해 말했습니다.
그곳에서 예수님이 삼십팔 년 동안 앓던 사람을 고쳐 주셨습니다.
"예수께서 가라사대 일어나 네 자리를 들고 걸어가라 하시니"
 “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”

존은 목사님의 말을 주의 깊게 들었습니다.
자기가 베데스다 연못의 사람과 같이 살았음을 깨닫고
행동을 취하지 않고 기적이 일어나기만을 기다렸다는 것을 알았습니다.
존은 명목상으로만 그리스도인으로 살았으나
진정으로 신앙의 원리대로 살지 않습니다.

존은 세입자의 문제에 대한 집주인의 태도가 자신의 신앙에 대한 태도와 같다는 것을 보았고,
그리고 존은 변화하기로 결심했습니다.
단순히 습관적으로 교회 예배에 참석하는 것에서 더 나아가서
매일의 삶에서 믿음의 원칙을 실천하기로 결심했습니다.

존은 새 집을 찾았고 더 나은 사람이 되기 위해 노력했습니다.
그는 도움이 필요한 사람들을 도왔고 사람들의 삶을 개선하기 위해 나섰습니다.
그는 믿음의 원칙대로 살기 시작했고 주변 사람들에게 빛이 되었습니다.
그는 기독교인이 되는 것이 단지 교회에 참석하는 것만이 아니고
매일 신앙의 가르침을 적극적으로 실천하는 것을 깨달았습니다.

 

요한복음 5:1 ~ 9 KRV
1그 후에 유대인의 명절이 있어 예수께서 예루살렘에 올라가시니라

2예루살렘에 있는 양문 곁에 히브리 말로 베데스다라 하는 못이 있는데 거기 행각 다섯이 있고

3그 안에 많은 병자, 소경, 절뚝발이, 혈기 마른 자들이 누워 [물의 동함을 기다리니

4이는 천사가 가끔 못에 내려와 물을 동하게 하는데 동한 후에 먼저 들어가는 자는 어떤 병에 걸렸든지 낫게 됨이러라]

5거기 삼십 팔년 된 병자가 있더라

6예수께서 그 누운 것을 보시고 병이 벌써 오랜줄 아시고 이르시되 네가 낫고자 하느냐

7병자가 대답하되 주여 물이 동할 때에 나를 못에 넣어 줄 사람이 없어 내가 가는 동안에 다른 사람이 먼저 내려가나이다

8예수께서 가라사대 일어나 네 자리를 들고 걸어가라 하시니

9그 사람이 곧 나아서 자리를 들고 걸어 가니라 이 날은 안식일이니

Living Out Your Faith: The Lesson John Learned from Christian House

John is a man of faith, and his greatest joy was attending church, praying, and worshiping. 
That's why he decided to move to 'Christian House,' a multifamily housing complex 
that was only thirty minutes by walk from the church.

Moving into Christian House was John's mistake.
The house is old, so John could hear coughing next door
John started to wake up at 3:00 am to the sound of walking in the middle of the night from the house upstairs.

The water was brown from time to time and made his skin itch. 
Cockroaches often roamed the apartment, and the landlord refused to fix the boiler, leaving John shivering through the winter. 
When he complained, the landlord dismissed his concerns, saying it was not his problem.
When John got angry, he fixed the boiler at the end of the winter.

The person who lives above John smokes cigarettes every day in the bathroom and on the balcony.
Johns eyes start to get itchy because of the smoke.
When John talked to the landlord, the landlord gave a few warnings and told John that the landlord had done his job and that it is not his problem.

John felt like he had made a mistake by moving to Christian House. 
He thought he would be closer to God, 
but instead, he felt miserable and helpless. 
As much as he wanted to attend the church's morning prayer, 
the circumstances made it impossible for him.

One Friday, John decided to move out of Christian House, 
even though it meant losing money due to the contract. 
That same evening, during the all-night service, 
the church minister spoke about the pool of Bethesda, 
where Jesus healed a man who had been sick for thirty-eight years. 
He said,  “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”

John listened carefully to the minister's words, 
realizing that he had been living like the man at the pool of Bethesda, 
waiting for a miracle to happen without taking action. 
John had been living as a Christian in name only, 
not truly living the principles of faith.

He saw that the landlord's attitude towards the tenants' problems was the same as his attitude towards his faith, 
and he resolved to change. 
He decided to start living out the principles of faith in his everyday life, 
rather than just attending church services.

John found a new home and committed himself to being a better person. 
He helped those in need and went out of his way to make people's lives better. 
He started to live by the principles of faith and became a light to those around him. 
He realized that being a Christian was not just about attending church, 
but about actively living out the teachings of faith every day.

 

John 5:1 ~ 9
1Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. 
2Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. 
3Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. 
[4] 5One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. 
6When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
7“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”
8Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” 
9At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.
The day on which this took place was a Sabbath
